Regular readers here know I am no fan of Ann Coulter. It is my belief that her views and outbursts are not only ill-informed, but inaccurate, untrue, unchristian, uncatholic, and worthy of conviction as hate-crimes.

So, it truly concerns me to learn that tonight Ann Coulter is giving the keynote speech at The National Journalism Center’s 30th Anniversary Dinner. Those of you who are unfamiliar with The National Journalism Center will be surprised to learn it is a “project” of Young America’s Foundation. The NJC claims it is devoted to “accuracy, balance, and comprehension of the issues.” Which is amusing, because, if you visit their website, those very words appear directly under a rather large photo of Robert Novak and quotes him as saying,

“To any follower of the media, it is obvious that sensationalism rather than facts dominates news coverage today. Some institutions, thankfully, are working against that trend. One of the most renowned is the National Journalism Center.”

Robert Novak, for those who don’t remember, is the one who publicly outed CIA Operative Valerie Plame.

Here’s a bit of background on Ms. Coulter:

Coulter first came to national prominence as a legal correspondent and pundit for MSNBC, which fired her for insulting a Vietnam veteran. The conservative National Review dropped her column after she responded to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, by stating that America should “invade their [terrorists'] countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.” In an interview with The New York Observer, Coulter stated that “[m]y only regret with [Oklahoma City bomber] Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times building.” USA Today also removed Coulter as a columnist covering the 2004 Democratic National Convention after she referred to the gathering as the “Spawn of Satan convention.” (via MediaMatters.)

Additionally, Coulter has called former Vice President Al Gore a “total fag,” she has said she “can’t really talk about (former Senator and now presidential-candidate John) Edwards because ”you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot.’“

Tonight’s Dinner will be televised live on C-SPAN at 8:15 PM.
