Sneakers, Sulu, Serendipity, And Another Word For Shlong.
I’m a firm believer in the power of serendipity. Coincidence is wrongly-defined. Kind of like that scene in The Matrix, the one where they freak-out when a cat walks by twice – you know, the one where Keanu Reeves has that deja-vu incident? Besides, as one of my teachers once said, twice is coincidence, three times is a trend.
Catching my eye this morning was an email entitled, “If the Shoe Fits, Wear It! (Find the perfect workout shoe for you).” As a five-day-a-week workouter, this is important to me. I’m always on the lookout for a better training shoe. My feet get numb a bit when I train too hard. Didn’t have a chance to read it, but put it in my head to read later. Next, I glance at a title in the New York Times’ “Most Popular Emailed” section: “Behavior: To Reap Psychotherapy’s Benefits, Get a Good Fit.” Now, for many gay men in Manhattan, therapy is not just a bar on West 52nd Street, it’s a weekly appointment with your shrink. I’m quite pleased with my new one, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look, right? And there’s that recurring “fit” theme happening in the back of my head.
So, my next move is the obvious one: I Google “Good Fit,” to see what it brings. Wouldn’t you know it? The number one hit for “Good Fit” on Google comes from the number one blog, yes, Boing Boing. It’s this “advertisement,” from 2004, that I found rather amusing. And what do you do when you see something funny? You go for more. Clicking on the three-year-old link, of course I get a 404. So, I head for home – Adrants’ home, that is.
The first piece that catches my eye? One that bears the text, “every once in awhile we find a winner like ad cock-snapping Charlie Brooker, and Hardaway-rubbing George Takei.” Well, you’ve got to take the plunge with material like that. What do you get? This: “Ten Biggest Cocks in UK Advertising Highlighted in Video,” and, this: “Hardaway Actually Is Irresistible to Gays, to His Chagrin.” (You’ll have to head over to influks to see the George Takei video. Worth the trip. Trust me.)
Everything does happen for a reason…
Enjoy this, too:
