Last month, as a lark, I wrote, When I Get A Dog, which said, “When I get a dog I’m going to name him text, so he’ll read & not bark. If he goes nuts I’ll call him hypertext and if he’s dumb, simpletext.” The names, not the search, were the lark.

But yesterday, after months of searching for a dog, I brought home my new puppy. He is a 10 week old Black Labrador Retriever, with spotted white paws and a white chest. I decided that I really liked the idea of naming him ‘Text.’ In new media - and old - we play with text, we love text, we love words. And, being black and white, it just seemed to fit.

So, his name is “Text”, which, depending on the many moods he has already demonstrated, can stand for:

HyperText, for when he’s hyperactive.
SimpleText, for when he’s just hanging.
SocialText, for when he’s playing well with others.
Context, though I think he’s more Pro than Con.
PlayText, for when he’s feeling playful, which, so far, is almost whenever he’s not sleeping.
Textual, for when he’s feeling a bit Southern, as in Text, Y’all!
and,
PlainText for when he’s ‘Just Plain Text.’

For short, you can call him “txt”.

I give you, Text (who, as luck would have it, likes to sleep, and play, a lot!)

Help put Text into context. What other Text-based names are there?
