“Karl Rove Is The Liar In The Re-Writing Of History Contest.”
No one likes a liar. No one except, perhaps, the Bush Whitehouse. As I wrote on Friday, Karl Rove lied when he appeared on Charlie Rose last week. Rove claimed the White House was against the Congressional vote for the war in the fall of 2002, and Congressional Democrats pushed Bush into it.
This morning on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal columnist, said, “It amazes me that in the age of videotape and proof, literal proof that you can hear and see what you’ve said in the past, that there are people who come forward and say, ‘I didn’t say that, I didn’t mean that.’”
Then, just after Noonan, Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Editor of The Nation, said, “Karl Rove is the liar in the re-writing of history contest.”
This week’s This Week roundtable, with Peggy Noonan, Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Elizabeth Bumiller, and George Will was one of the best yet.
See Rove lie here:
Don’t take just my word that these are lies. Steve Benen at Talking Points Memo quotes then-Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, Former White House Chief of Staff Andy Card, former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, and former Bush counselor Dan Bartlett as all agreeing Rove lied.
And shame on you, Charlie Rose, for letting him get away with it. That’s not journalism, that’s PR. Rose spread his own PR on his blog post, “My Conversation with Karl Rove” on The Huffington Post. Here’s the entire text, which preceded a video clip from the interview:
“I had a conversation with Karl Rove, the former deputy White House chief of staff and senior advisor to President George Bush. He has been known as ”the architect“ and ”boy genius“ and even ”Bush’s brain.“ The president also called him ”turd blossom.“
We talked about his work for the president and what he thought about the effectiveness of his policies.”
Yup. that’s all Rose had to say on the interview. Fortunately, readers of The Huffington Post had a few thoughts and comments of their own. Here is my favorite:
“Charlie,
Why? Who is he? What has he done? Why did he leave his last job? Didnt he talk to Fitzgerald and the grand jury four or five times about the Plame investigation? Anything of interest there? You might have asked him ‘Where are all of the emails? The five million or so that were illegally sent over non-governmental secure servers regarding this administration, that have mysteriously dissappeared? And the point of the interview was…?”
